Nova Scotia garden destination

Gardens Annapolis

Often referred to as the "banana belt" of Nova Scotia, the Annapolis Royal area is a gardener's paradise. Settled by Europeans in 1605, and inhabited by the Mi'kmaq for thousands of years before that, our region boasts a bountiful harvest that has been the lifeblood of local settlement through time.

As you travel through our region, you will note that the gardening culture lives on today. From private gardens to nurseries, from farms to farmers markets, from community gardens to botanical gardens, from garden clubs to garden events... there is much to see and do. Add to that the area's rich collection of parks, museums, country inns, restaurants & shops, hiking trails... the list goes on.

A focal point is the Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens, a 17 acre botanical garden showcasing gardening methods, designs and materials reflecting more than four centuries of Canadian history. Recognized in 2015 as Canada's Garden of the Year, the Historic Gardens is a "must see" for visitors to Nova Scotia and one of the Annapolis region's premiere attractions.
